We love natural beauty products that are safe, effective, and leave you looking and feeling your best. And when those products are made locally with natural ingredients safe for you and the environment – even better!
This week we’re highlighting another lovely local maker who shares our passion for providing plant-based clean beauty to our community and beyond. Ericka Rodriguez was inspired to start her Axiology line of vegan, cruelty-free lipsticks after struggling to find a lipstick that didn’t harm her body, animals, or the environment. All made with just 10 ingredients, Axiology’s lipsticks and lip crayons naturally nourish your lips and look amazing while doing so.
Check out our chat with Ericka below, and mark your calendars for our
Wellness Wednesday event featuring Axiology on February 13th!
What does a typical day look like for you, and what are you working on right now?
We have our own lab in Bend, Oregon where we hand-make our products and ship out to customers. I head there everyday and touch base with our employees. I then work on whatever big project we having going on. Right now, we are putting the final touches on our new website that just launched.
What do you like most about your job?
I love everything about my job. I love the start-up culture where we are discovering and learning everything by doing it. Everything is new, so lots of creativity and and thoughtfulness goes into everything.
Ten years ago, where did you think you would be now?
Ten years ago I had just graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a degree in business administration. My concentration was in entrepreneurship so I knew that I eventually wanted to start my own business. At the time, I was very unclear as to what that business would be. I was passionate about helping others and had dreamed of opening a homeless shelter, an animal shelter or doing something to help animals. If someone had told me I would be starting a makeup company, I wouldn’t have believed it. However, I am so proud of Axiology and love it with all my heart.
What about Axiology are you most proud of?
I am super proud of the fact that we are a company that’s doing good in the world. I love that we are saving bunnies from animal cruelty and using our platform to educate people on such injustices as animal testing and palm oil.
What beauty advice would you give to your younger self?
I struggled with severe acne from the age of 12 up until my mid-twenties. I took every pill imaginable and used every topical cream the dermatologist would recommend. I wish I would have known the power of herbs, and would advise my younger self to seek holistic guidance and get the root cause of acne.
What is one of your favorite self-care practices?
I love baths. I’ll fill up the tub with really hot water, add essential oils and bath products, light candles, and soak for a long time. I enjoy the quiet and being able to think and relax without any outside stimulation.
What was the last TV show you binge watched?
Insecure on HBO.
